Your Groom Speech Should Reflect Your Personality - Tips and Ideas on How To Produce Great Groom Speeches

Along with all your groom’s duties, you still have to write your groom speech. Most grooms find their speeches one of the hardest to write because they want it to be perfect. And so does your bride. So hold off on the drinks until after you say your speech at the wedding reception. So, how do you write the perfect groom speech?

Good question and here are a few tips to help you write that perfect groom speech.

First, the only place you can find a "perfect" speech is within your own heart – sentimental, I know but true. A lot of men are under the misconception that good groom speeches must be full of flowery language, clever references and gut busting anecdotes. Let me rid you of these ideas.
Your speech should come from your feelings and memories with a sense of humor added. Your speech isn’t open mic night at the local pub and using a generic script full of popular married jokes is just in bad taste. So that said, how do you write the perfect wedding speech?

You Start With Preparation for your Groom Speech

Groom Speech InformationTake some time to think about what you want to say in your speech. Do some brainstorming and do it with your bride-to-be. After all, if you both agree, you’ll be speaking for both of you. She may want to have a speech of her own. If that’s the case then you can easily share the list of people to thank. You also might want to think about what marriage means to you.

You'll most likely come up with items like fidelity, family, commitment, loyalty, and love. These are the kinds of ideas that you can center your speech around. As the groom, you also have some groom duties to take care of.

As the groom, you’re the guest of honor and it’s your duty to thanks the guest for being there, for those who helped with the wedding plans, the best man, groomsmen, the maid of honor and bride’s maids, your parents and the parents and family of your bride. That’s a lot of thanks but it can be split between you and your new bride.

Your groom’s speech can cover anyone you want to give special attention to and thanks for helping. All weddings and families are different so it depends on your circumstances on what to add to your speech.

The Length of Groom Speeches

Many people who give speeches think they have to talk for certain number of minutes for their speech to be good. However, that’s not the case. Your speech will be perfect if you cover everything you want to cover. It doesn’t matter if it’s 2 minutes or 20 minutes as long as it comes from your heart, it will be perfect.

And your guest will thank you for keeping it on the short side. Five minutes is more than long enough to say what you have to say AND for your guests! Five minutes is a long time to listen to someone talk. So as long as you’re reasonably prepared, don’t mumble and stumble through your groom speech, your guests will be eternally grateful if you keep it on the short side. Most listeners are forgiving of speeches because they are there to share the tender moment of the day, not to listen to an Oscar acceptance speech.

As long as your groom speech is given warmly, sincerely, and briefly, they will be as happy as you are.

The Order of Groom Speeches

You’ve done the brainstorming, you share some of the thanks with your bride, you have a list of things you want to say, and so, what order do you say them? That’s easy. Every wedding is different but the first things you say are to the most important people to you. Here’s a list of the most popular topics and the order they are given.

Start your Groom Speech with thanks

Use a sentence or two to express your thanks to the important people you’re honoring. You can start with a quote, saying or poem or just go right into your speech. Be sure to mention what you’ve learned from that person and don’t forget to say his or her name! Continue with others that you want to give special attention to keeping to one or two sentences per person.

What marriage means to you

The second part of your speech should cover what marriage to your bride means to you and what your hopes for the marriage are. Also, cover anyone who has given you any special meaning to your life. Like your parents, uncles or aunts or even your best man.

Ending your Groom Speech with a toast

End your speech with a one-sentence toast. Depending on your life you can toast the guests, such as “May you always be as happy as I am today”, your parents, such as “To my mother and father, who showed me what marriage is like”. You can toast your bride’s parents, your brothers and sisters or your bride. If you try to toast everyone, you’ll be there half the night so keep the toast to one or two sentences.

It’s not mandatory to talk about everyone who had a hand in your marriage plans; you can thank them individually during the wedding reception. Nor is it necessary to make your short stories gut busters or tear-jerker, just talk from your heart. You’ll be surprised at how moving it can be. Don’t forget to practice your groom speech. It will make it more natural sounding the more you practice. Finally, I would like to introduce to an excellent groom speech resource. Glimpses of A Groom Speech I Prepared for Myself

When I met Amanda, I knew she was the one for me. Although, when we met, she was afraid of everything. She had a bad childhood and experienced things that no one should ever have to. But watching her grow into a strong and confident woman has made me fall even deeper in love with her.

Now thinking of our upcoming nuptials. I have to prepare myself for the groom's wedding speech. I want to make sure and thank all the guests that helped make this day so special. Therefore, to start out, I think I will thank her father, for not only the speech he will be giving, but for also welcoming me into his family with open arms.

When I first met Amanda's father, he was overprotective, which is expected and I respected him for that. After I worked very hard to prove myself to him. He then welcomed me with open arms, and his heart as well. I want him to know that he should be proud of what a wonderful person his daughter has turned out to be and that I am very grateful to have met her and have them both in my life.

Following this, I will also thank Amanda's mother for if it wasn't for her, she wouldn't even be here. She gave birth to the woman of my dreams and I will forever be in her depth for that. I want everyone close to my future wife, as well as myself to know, just how truly blessed I am to be sharing this day with them.

Next, I will turn my attention to my best man. He has been my best friend since grade school and without his wisdom and friendship I probably wouldn't be the man I am today. There are many memories I can think back on to include in my groom speech but only a few that stick out above the rest and those are the ones I'm going to use.

Now, I can picture myself looking at my wife, with her eyes shining from the haziness, of her joyous tears. I know she is going to look radiant but I also want her to know it as well. Therefore, I will turn to my wife and tell her how stunning she looks and how lucky I am to be wearing her ring. I want to make sure she is fully aware of how she has impacted my life and made it whole. I want her to look back on this day, and remember my words and all the feelings I put into them.

The groom speech is a very important part of a wedding ceremony. Therefore, if you are a groom struggling with how to prepare for your own speech, just remember this. Be sure to thank everyone for their help along the way, and by all mean thank the father of the bride for delivering his daughter into your arms. Don't leave anyone out, and just relax and be yourself. Then turn to your new bride and make her know how beautiful she looks and how blessed you are to have her.

Groom Speech Lines You Can Use In Your Speech

When the groom makes a great speech at a rehearsal dinner or wedding reception, it can be a high point of the wedding day. There are several tricks to doing this well. First, groom speeches must strike a balance between being personal and loving and being too emotional or revealing. The speech needs to be organized and have some solid content. And the groom needs to remember the listeners - a good speech is a gift to them.

Here in this article I would like to share with you a few good groom speech lines (or comments or phrases ... whatever you might like to call them) that you can all use in your groom speeches. Wait a minute, remember to change them a bit to suit your personality and style. And by the way, I don't want all my readers ending up giving groom speeches that have exactly the same words and phrases discussed here. That would be quite funny.

Simply said the groom speech or toast needs a beginning, middle and end. The beginning needs to grab attention and set a tone. It can be a simple, summarizing statement, a joke, the promise of a story, an elegant statement of purpose or an engaging question. Examples include, "What a great joy to be here with one another," "What a surprise to be here this day," and "You have come to share this day with me and (name of bride) and my heart is (or ‘I am’) very, very thankful." If the content of the speech, or the theme of the wedding, uses a metaphor or famous tale, capitalize on that right from the start. Examples might be, "In this moment we are companions on the Yellow Brick Road," ("The Wizard of Oz") "I feel like a young Jedi Knight in the Throne Room scene," ("Star Wars, A New Hope") or, "Why are we here? Tradition!" ("Fiddler on the Roof"). The middle of the groom speech picks up from this beginning. Leaning on a famous story, like the examples above, can be very engaging: Be sure to be consistent with the story, though. In speaking about thanks, or joy, or surprise explain why in two or three points. Make any stories that are told in this middle section suitable for all listeners, and never embarrass anyone by being too off-color, rude, or revealing.

Groom speeches need to have a zippy ending. Make it flow from the content of the speech and use it to pay tribute to others. While the groom may pay particular tribute to the bride, friends and family, a salute to something everyone can connect with makes a fabulous concluding statement. The tone of this kind of conclusion is, "Thank you all so much for sending (name of bride) into our futures with your love. We salute all of you and assure you of our lasting love and friendship for years to come."

Well, I hope you have got some food for thought. Now it's time for you to work with your groom speech and make it really exceptional.

Groom Speeches Don't Have to Be Boring - Make Your Groom Speech Delightful

An estimated 75% of all people have a fear of speaking in public, and one can imagine that this number is much higher among grooms giving the customary groom speech on their wedding days. This is a time-honored tradition where the groom speaks to the future of he and his partner, and of the family and friends that have supported him. Here are some important guidelines to follow if you know someone who is (or are going to be) in that position soon:

Use a bit of humor! Wedding speeches underline the joy of marriage and eager anticipation of the future, so they do often lend themselves well to humor. And groom speeches shouldn't be any different. A gentle poke at your best man or someone close to you can endear your audience to you and make the speech a little easier to give. Laughter naturally releases tension from the body, and you can bet that you'll probably be stiff as a board up there, so try to make the others, and yourself, laugh a bit. It'll make the process a little bit easier and a lot more fun.

Give credit where credit is due! Your partner's parents for allowing them to take their child's hand in marriage is a popular and due subject for the subject of a speech like this. You should also be sure to thank your friends, family, the caterers, and whoever else you can think of to thank. Remember, everybody there has had a hand in making your big day what it is, so don't leave anyone out of the groom speech.

Give it from the heart! This is your wedding day, and you are going to be bonded to your love for the rest of your life! Pour your heart into this. Hold nothing back; show your audience and your partner how you feel. If you write from your heart, you'll leave a strong impression that they will never forget. This is your second greatest opportunity to express your feelings and gratitude outside of maybe the exchange of your vows. Don't forget to practice so that you can keep your composure during your delivery.

Remember, above all else, you are in the company of people you love, and of people that love you, so don't worry about being judged for what you say. These are people you don't have to be afraid of. Just make sure your tie is on straight and your cummerbund is on good and tight.

Follow these guidelines and you'll deliver a groom speech to remember. Take yourself out of that frightened 75% I mentioned at the beginning of the article, because you've got this! Have fun, and congratulations!

How to Make A Good, Decent Groom Speech

So the big day is approaching and you need some good material that is going to impress your guests. Not good with this kind of thing? That's okay. Just follow this simple guide and you will have an impressive groom speech.

First thing is to list all the things you love about your wife-to-be. Remember, this is just a brainstormed list, so absolutely anything will do. You're going to weed out the big stuff later. Just try to get more than ten items on the list. After you have your list, go through and pick out the five things you would rank highest. Now, list them in descending order, so that the first item is the least of the five - we want to end strong.

Now that you have these five items, spread them out on a full blank page with room to write a few sentences on each. Again, don't worry about being perfect, as this too is just a brainstorm list. What you want to focus on is each item individually. Ask yourself some simple questions for inspiration. When did you discover this attribute? Why is it important to you? Does it have anything to do with any of her family members (good groom speeches include them, especially her Dad)? Go through and do this with all of the five attributes you listed, along with any other information you can think of. Once this is done, go through and cross out the items that you don't want in the speech.

Groom speeches are supposed to be somewhat corny, so don't remove things because you think it demeans your manhood. You want those items in there. Now you have a basic outline of your speech and what remains is putting it all together. Get yourself some note cards. At the top of one card, put the first item on your list, and bullet point the item's explanations you did not cross out. Just be brief, you don't want to read a script, you just want a clear guide for your groom speech.

After this, you should have five note cards, each with an attribute you love about your new bride each with some bullet point explanations. Grab two more note cards. On the first, detail how you met your new bride and how you felt: be brief; be concise. This is your opener. On the other note card, write about your vision of your future together. This is your finale. Practice your groom speech a few times, maybe with your best man and all that is left is to deliver it at the reception.

The Groom Speech Structure You Might Want To Use

Traditionally not all grooms need to give a groom speech at his wedding reception. It depends on locations, cultures and family customs if a groom has to give a groom speech or not. But since you are reading this it can be assumed that you are in fact have to give one during the reception. No problem. To fully understand what to include in your groom speech, you must understand the purpose of groom speeches in the first place. With the purpose we can then understand the tone and format that should be used during the groom speech.

The Purpose of Groom Speeches :

The purpose of groom speeches is to, on behalf of the bride, thank everyone who has assisted in making the wedding ceremony and reception run flawlessly and turn out beautifully. And at the same time share some of his feelings about getting married.

The Tone of Groom Speeches :

The tone of groom speeches is formal. You want to properly and sincerely thank these people for playing such a big role in preparing your wedding and raising you and your wife (the parents).

The Groom Speech Format :

The traditional format of the groom speech is as follows -

  1. Introduction (a funny attention getter, like a one-line marriage joke)

  2. The “Thank you's "

    • the audience

    • the parents (hers-for making her wonderful, yours-for raising you)

    • helpers (whoever helped fund, decorate, or coordinate the wedding)

    • the wedding party

    • the best man (adding a little humor here is fine)

    • your bride

  3. Reminiscing about your favorite memory with the bride (how you first met, first impressions)

  4. Telling the audience why you and the bride are perfect together (what you have in common)

  5. An inspirational saying or quote that references to you and the bride

Additional Pointers:

It is acceptable to pass out gifts to the parents and wedding party while thanking them

It is respected of you to be mature, sincere, and serious during your speech

It is not acceptable to include many jokes

So, that's the most simple groom speech structure that you can try for your groom speech. And don't hastate to use your creativity and sense of humor to make your groom speech special.

How to Write a Groom Speech in 6 Steps - The Groom Speech Simplified

In this article (actually a t-by-step Groom speech guideline) what I am going to do is break apart the entire groom speech and present it in a simplified manner. The sole purpose of this post, as always, is to make the groom speech creation easier for you.

A funny joke for the introduction - Begin your groom speech on a humorous note
"Marriage is not a word. It's a sentence... a life sentence!"

"A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man."

"Just think, if it weren't for marriage, men would go through life thinking they had no faults at all."
List of people you want to thank in your groom speech
  • Include your family, the bride's parents, and members of the wedding party.
List of people your wife wants to thank
  • You are thanking people on behalf of your wife as well, let her double check your list and add anyone else that she feels deserves a personal thank you.
Your thank you to your wife - Most probably the most important part of your groom speech
  • Thank her for coming into your life and making you a better person. Share with the audience how you have changed for the better and how she has made you more driven to succeed.
Memories of you and your wife you would want to include in your groom speech
  • Here you can include a romantic evening you took her out, the engagement story, how you first met, or even just that one night when she was more beautiful than ever.
Loving quote or saying as the ending

Here is a perfect example:

"Joseph Addison once said, "Three grand essential to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love, and something to hope for." With --- we will always have something to do, we will always love one another, and we share our dreams and goals together to hope for."

A Groom Speech is As Good As You Are Prepared For It

A Groom Speech can make you nervous only if you drag your self to that position. Groom Speech resources are available all over the internet and you can prepare yourself by following them. These are best delivered when they are well prepared.

If you are a groom and need to deliver a speech and you just do not know how to do so, there should be no reason for you to panic. However you might really wonder how some others are so easy on stage. While some have a flair for speeches, some grooms may be tongue-tied. There are ways out of this dilemma however.

Every groom needs to begin with spending a little time with the preparation of the groom speech. This will go a long way in helping you feel comfortable, and as a result the groom speech will be delivered in a better way as well. You will need to prepare a speech by having it written in a very systematic way. Drafting a speech is crucial. Never expect to deliver your speech extempore on your wedding night. You can just split the speech into four or five parts. Welcome the guests, thank both the sets of parents, all the other speakers and every one involved in the wedding, praise the bride (and the bride's maids) and lastly conclude by inviting the next speaker (the best man for the best man speech in most cases).

Groom speeches are not so difficult to prepare, as it might seem. You can begin with a short and effective introduction. This is sure to get the attention of those around you. It can then move on to welcoming the guests and thanking them for attending. But you should make sure that the speech doesn't get too lengthy either. Even though the length is short, the choice of words should be very strong.

The words used must have a great impact on those listening. A complete conclusion is essential at the end of the speech as well. No one would want you to leave abruptly from the stage. Don't try to be too innovative, but concluding your groom speech in style is very important to leave a very positive impact. The smart way to conclude speeches is saying something about the best man and inviting him for his best man's speech.

This is probably the most interesting part of the speech, but you must not get carried away at the same time. Adding a touch of humor in your groom speech will do no harm. In fact you should be looking to spice up your speech with humors, suitable one-liners and interesting quotes.

Using significant words must be another important part of the groom speech. The happiness you feel at the event must be reflected as well, as this will bind you instantly with all those watching you. Every word that emanates from you should sound genuine and exactly the way you feel. Else the groom speech is not even worth having a glance at, as one would have realized by now.

Your Groom Speech Just Got Easier

Taking into consideration what you are going to say for your groom speech at your wedding reception scared the hell out of you once the initial excitement (of getting married) is over. A few simple tips will make sure that your groom speech is no worse than anybody else’s. The audience wants you to speak from heart. And you need to oblige them with a sincere yet light-hearted speech. The groom speech generally falls in between the father of the bride speech and the best man speech. The father of the bride speech is typically more somber while the best man speech often has several funny and even somewhat awkward stories.

It is conventional to expect a groom speech to honor and express thanks to everybody who has attended or assisted in arrangement of the marriage. However, the last thing you would want is make your groom speech sound like a monotonous checklist. Despite the fact that preferably you would prepare for your groom speech ahead of time, it is vital that you listen to the father of the bride speech and take on from there.  Similarly, towards the end of the speech, after you have said a few words of praise about the bride (and don’t forget the bridesmaids) and done with the toasting you can say a couple of line about the best man again (you should have mentioned about him already in your speech) and welcome him to deliver his speech. This is a nice gesture from your part and would give the best man a cue from where he could take on and begin his speech.

If you can talk you can give a groom speech - it's as simple as this. Do you say "thank you" when somebody congratulates you for something or wishes you on your birthday? I am sure you do. And you will be happy to learn that almost half of a groom speech is about thanking several people including the guests, the groomsmen and the bridesmaids and everybody else who is present at the wedding reception. So, the main difference between saying thanks to your buddy and thanking the guests at the wedding is nothing but the difference between the number of people you are addressing to. Yes, if you are a bit introvert by nature you could feel shy why praising the bride in the presence of so many people. But practicing it several times would definitely make it easier for you.

I would request you to read the other posts of this blog to learn more about writing and delivering groom speeches and toasts.

A Few More Words on Groom Speech

For long you had intricacy expressing your feelings to your girlfriend. Now that finally you have decided to tie the knot, it's one of your duties to express your love and loyalty to your bride and that too in front of more than hundred guests. Until now you have enjoyed and often laughed at the grooms when they fumbled while giving their groom speeches. Now it's your turn to prepare and deliver a perfect groom speech. And since you found this blog on groom speeches I assume that you realized that your reputation is at stake. I have seen smart guys faltering while delivering wedding speeches. Good for you that you are aware of that and try to find a solution. This blog is all about groom speeches and if you scroll down you will find several posts on how to write, prepare and deliver wonderful groom speeches. If you understand why a groom fails to deliver even a simplest of groom speeches you know what you need to make sure so that you don't. Once you learn the basics it wouldn't be that complicated to find the words you always wanted to say to praise your newlywed bride.

While brainstorming different groom speech ideas I suggest you begin by remembering how you met your girlfriend, the bride now, for the first time. However, the groom speech is not about the bride alone so don't get carried away while paying tribute to her. In fact you should begin the speech by greeting the guests and thanking almost everybody for something or the other. Keep your speech short, express your gratitude to both sets of parents, share a couple of nice anecdotes, don't forget to complement the bridesmaids, the groomsmen including the best man and for God's sake don't try to be fancy if you don't know what you are doing …. And that's it. Do that and you will do justice with your groom speech. By the way, as I have already written in my earlier posts on groom speech, it will work out better for you if you first draft the entire speech first - an outline or blueprint on which you can build the final speech.

My next blog post will be on duties and responsibilities of a groom. So, come back again after a few days. However, if your wedding day is prior to that you can check this resource on groom speeches and toasts to get more help on the topic.

5 Things You Shouldn't Be Doing To Give A Perfect Groom Speech

Why the heck a groom speech is easier than most other wedding speeches? Well, the answer is the groom has to take care of a lot of other duties and responsibilities and could be easily overwhelmed. Just kidding . . . but it is true that groom speeches are simple in character unless a groom decides to make his speech complex.

I have covered almost everything a groom would like me to post here in this blog. So, I thought this time I would post 5 things that you should not do while preparing, rehearsing and finally delivering your groom speech. I will try to keep it short, don't worry.

First, do not procrastinate a bit. If you haven't already, simply start by jotting down the ideas you get from here or anywhere else on the internet on a piece of paper.

Secondly, try not to read from that typical card the wedding speakers pull out from the waist coat pocket. You can of course remember the names in your thank you list, can't you? What if you forget? Just look around while giving you speech . . . most of them should be present at the wedding reception and in front of you.

Thirdly, do not forget to interact with the groomsmen especially the best man and discuss so that you can co-ordinate in a better way which is so important to make not only your groom's wedding speech but the whole wedding reception party a huge success.

Next, never include embarrassing stuffs in your groom speech. Stay away from controversial topics like mentioning the bride's ex-boyfriends name or how you used to dislike Daniel, the brother of the bride . . . you got the idea.

Finally, do not try not to rehearse or practice your speech several times expecting to give an extempore speech. It could spoil the party for you.

So, that's it for this post. You can get more tips and ideas on groom speeches here.

Honey, I screwed up my Groom Speech

You should have prepared for it; but never mind, it happens sometimes. I guess that's what your wife would be telling you when you returned to her after making your groom speech. But the larger part of the audience might not be hat generous. I mean, they won't come to you and tell you how bad your speech was but you will immediately know from their gestures that they expected a better speech from the groom.

Groom speeches are comparatively easier than other wedding speeches and it's difficult to mess up your speech unless you totally ignored it and didn't bother to prepare for it. If you are one of the few grooms who think that they could easily come up with an impromptu speech you are asking for serious trouble. Even if you didn't make silly mistakes like forgetting to thank the father of the bride or not introducing the best man or the groomsmen, your speech could end up being uninspiring if you don't prepare for it.

When it comes to groom speeches, here are some common mistakes that a groom could make. So, be careful of them and prepare well such that you can avoid them in your groom speech.

  • Not preparing for the speech and hoping to deliver an extempore groom speech.
  • Although you had your speech written, you never bothered to rehearse it.
  • Groom speeches are great when they are short and to the point. But yours doesn't seem to have an ending.
  • You forgot to thank the father of the bride and/or greet the bride's family.
  • You forgot to introduce the best man and/or thank the bridesmaids for their role.
  • You wanted your groom speech to be funny but that turned out to be the greatest loophole in your speech.

The list can go on and on but I think you have got the message already. Take care of them and they will take care of your speech. You can make your groom speech absolutely outstanding and you can bore the audience with a thoroughly monotonous speech - the choice is yours.

A good groom speech resource could help you avoid any mistake quite effectively and thus make your speech stand out. Here's one you can consider.

The Groom Speech Slide Show

Months ago I created a groom speech video from a power point presentation. You will find the video here in this blog as well as in YouTube if you search for the term "groom speech" or "groom speeches". In fact you will find it on top of all groom speech video results which is very cool. Yesterday while I was going through my files and folders searching for something I came across the original groom speech presentation from which the video was made. I thought why not share it with you. So, here it is. By the way, some of the slides are animated which you won't be able to see ... not the slide but the animation, I mean.

Groom Speech

The presentation was created to promote a groom speech guide which I always recommend if you want your speech to be really stunning. In near future I have plans to create a presentation (and a video) which will be solely on groom speech tips.

Lesson from a Groom Speech video

I want you to watch this groom speech video. In the video you will find the groom giving his groom's speech in front of the guests, friends and families who were present at the wedding reception. Before i come to the speech I would like you to notice the quality of the video. It's way too dark inside. There's hardly any light, at least not enough to shoot a video. You can hardly see the groom and the bride is lost in the dark. It would have been great if we could see the groom and his facial expressions while he's delivering his groom speech. And, yes, the bride too.

OK .... watch it first

Now, let's come to the groom speech. While the groom seems to be pretty confident and prepared for his speech it's hard to believe that he begin his speech thanking the stuffs and the wedding planners. Well, they deserve it undoubtedly but generally their names are mentioned towards the end of the speech and that's how groom speeches should be planned. What about the guests especially those who traveled long just to attend the wedding? What about thanking the father of the bride for his speech (I am sure there was one just before the groom's speech).

However apart from that the speech was quite good and the groom seemed to be in control. And he did get some very spontaneous reactions from the audience which means that they were hearing to him and they liked the speech.

Groom Speeches from readers of Groom Speech Blog

This blog is all about groom speeches and I think I have already posted here enough tips to help a groom with his groom speech. I have already given all I have but I still feel that there’s still room for improvement. But, you know sometimes kinda bizarre writing the same thing over and over. But one my readers gave me a great idea. I will now publish groom speech articles from my readers from time to time. Here’s the first one from Eric Beckinsale who is from Kentucky, USA.

The groom speech is a very imperative part of a wedding reception. As the groom you would naturally want to show how magical the day has been and how you are grateful to everybody who helped to stage the wedding. After all a wedding is quite an event and it does take a lot to make it to the perfection. Now let’s see how we can follow some simple steps to write a groom speech in no time flat.

To begin with, you should thank every person for their attendance. In your groom speech thank the wedding guests especially those who have come a long way just to wish you on your wedding day and be a part of the celebration.

Secondly, don’t forget to thank the bride's parents as well as your own parents for raising you and supporting you during all the stages of your life. Now it’s your turn to take this opportunity and show your gratitude. While addressing the bride’s parents say how honored you are to be a part of their family.

Generally groom speeches are sincere and most of us think that there’s hardly any scope for humor. But that isn’t true. There’s no harm if you can chip in a couple of humorous anecdotes in your groom’s speech. Don’t try to be too funny if you aren’t sure what you are doing. Just a pinch of humor and that would easily help groom speech stand out.

Last but not the least, the bride and the bridesmaids. No groom speech is complete without the groom expressing his thoughts about the bride. If you ever wanted to praise your girlfriend (the bride) do it now. Let the guests know how she cares about you. And why you feel honored as well as lucky to be able to get her as your bride.

Wrap up your groom speech by mentioning the maid of honor and the best man and praising them for their support.

Groom Speech - key points to remember

It takes a lot of planning to stage a successful wedding. If you are groom you already know that making sure everything work perfectly on the big day could be a tall task. And if you add to it the fact that you being the groom require to get ready for your groom speech, makes it even more overwhelming. But fortunately, writing a speech is a not as hard as you would expect it to be especially if you have the right kind of resources. Besides, groom speech is easier than the other wedding speeches.

Now, what exactly are you supposed to say in your groom’s speech? Most grooms don’t actually seem to know what to include in his speech. Well, if you go through this blog which is exclusively on groom speeches, you will find that there are already enough tips and advices. Yet, I always try to write a blog post whenever I get new ideas that may help the groom to come up with a stunning speech. So, once again, here are three key factors that govern wedding speeches for the groom.

Don’t forget to thank the bride’s parents before anything else -
Normally, the bride's parents, for obvious reasons, play a huge role in their daughter’s wedding. Your groom’s speech is an opportunity to show them your appreciation. Thank them for raising their daughter as well as allowing you to be a part of their family. Also thank the father of the bride for any compliments he might have given you during his father of the bride speech.

Say thanks to your parents also -
You know that your parents also did play their part in making the wedding ceremony a grand success. Don’t miss this opportunity to thank them as well. Tell them how thankful you are for raising you and in making you the person you are. In your speech introduce your parents to the guests attending the wedding reception. No groom speech is complete without the groom expressing his gratitude towards his parents.

It’s your opportunity to speak your heart out to your bride -
Let me tell you that you will not probably ever going to get an opportunity like this to show your love for your bride. Use your groom speech to say everything you always wanted to say to her or about her. Groom speeches aren’t only about thanking your bride for letting you marry her it’s more about expressing your feeling for her. So, keep that in mind while giving your speech.

Tips following which I wrote my Groom Speech

It’s hard to understand why you must stress when it comes to writing a groom speech as there are so many resources are available at your finger tips. In fact with proper materials and guidance you can write up a pretty good groom speech under an hour. Honestly, I was also very much stressed because I had hardly any idea on how to get started with my grooms speech. But thanks to the tips and advices that are available online I did eventually manage to come up with a decent groom speech.

But I also had my share of similar experiences like you are having if you are a groom getting ready for your groom speech. When I realized that I have to write and give a groom speech it was already late. I was so restless and worried that I couldn’t sleep for days until I found a solution to it. But thank God that I was composed enough and at least didn’t procrastinate. I searched the web looking for information on groom speeches and before long I gathered everything I need not only to write a wonderful groom wedding speech but also learned how to overcome the nervousness and deliver it during the wedding reception.

I have already shared with you in this groom speech blog a lot of tips, advices and ideas on groom speeches but it won’t d any harm if I remind you one more time. Especially when it’s my own wedding ceremony this time that we are talking about and it’s my own experience with my newly wed bride, our parents and families, the groomsmen, the bridesmaids and the best man everybody else involved I the wedding ceremony as well as the wedding reception. It was very exciting but at the same time I was feeling the heat from inside.

Okay, now go straight to the point. Here are the tips that I learned.

1. While writing your groom speech, imagine how you can connect with the audience (the guests present at the reception in his case). Your speech shouldn’t be long. Try to keep you your groom speech short but awe-inspiring.

2. In order to keep your groom speech short and easy, consider using sentences that aren’t too long inside a paragraph. Use no more than three to five brief meaningful sentences in your paragraph.

Initially, don’t be too concerned about the composition. Just go on writing whatever comes to your mind until you at least have an outline of the speech on which you can always build up your final groom speech.

3. Refrain from using dramatic words while writing the speech. Use informal English that we use in everyday conversion. Remember that your goal is to simply thank the guests for attending, the parents of the bride to let you marry their daughter, you parents for help make you what you are …. So on and so forth. Don’t try to make it unnecessary complex and you will do good with your groom speech.

4. Consider using expressive words in your groom speech. Especially when you are trying to express your feelings about the bride. Using some amusing anecdotes or interesting stories I your speech if you like. You can go through some sample groom speeches in this regard.

5. Finally, when you are done with your speech read it aloud first to yourself and then to some family members and keep on editing until you know you have got what you want.

That is all you could do with to write a very engaging groom speech. However, If you still feel that writing a groom speech on your own is not your cup of tea simply seek professional help. Or, even better spend a few bucks to get yourself a quality groom speech package. These packages have the exact materials that you precisely need to develop an intensely touching, awe-inspiring groom speech in no time.

Groom Speech Structure

Typical reception programs require the parents of the bride and groom to say some things about the newly wed couple. Naturally, the bride and the groom and the best man also have turns in speaking in front of families, friends, and guests. The bride and groom speech are usually the highlights of the reception program.

Although the bride speech does not follow a certain structure, groom speech encompasses certain parts. Traditions suggest the following parts of a groom speech.

First, the groom must begin by welcoming everyone who exerted much of their time and effort in coming to their wedding.

A groom speech includes thanking the parents of his new wife for bringing up such a pretty lady and for giving him the hand of their daughter in marriage.

This is also an appropriate time to say a few things about how the newly wed couple first met and share to the people the common things that the couple shares. The groom may choose to add an anecdote about them. It is the task of the groom to thank the groomsmen for being with him throughout the day. He shouldn’t forget to express his gratuity to the best man for his presence and to say something about him. A few words about the best man and the bride are also appreciated.

The groom’s speech ends with thanking the bridesmaids for attending to his new wife and by proposing a toast to the bridesmaids.

As always, if you happen to be a groom and desperately trying to get ready for your groom speech, I strongly recommend that you try this groom speech resource before anything else.
